MEET BARB
_JPG.jpg)
I have served as the 2nd Ward Alderperson since being elected in 2021 and have truly enjoyed serving not just my ward but the entire city of DeKalb.
I grew up in a northern suburb of Chicago and earned my Associate in Arts from Harper College in 1975 before transferring to NIU, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications in 1977. During my senior year, I met Norm, a local farmer, and we married in 1978. We’ve built a life together in DeKalb, raising two daughters who have strong ties to this community.
My path to public service has been shaped by years of community involvement—supporting our schools as a room mom, Girl Scout cookie chair, and DHS Music Boosters president. I’ve served on church and nonprofit boards as well as supported community programs of the Ellwood House, DAAHA, the NIU Foundation, DeKalb County Community Foundation, 4-H, meals at Hope Haven and ushering, cleaning, decorating and whatever else is needed at the Egyptian Theatre. Professionally, I’ve worked in banking, university programming, and bookkeeping, gaining valuable experience in financial planning, teamwork, and leadership.
I am proud to call DeKalb home and to serve its residents. I hope to continue working for you, and I would truly appreciate your vote and support.
