To the Editor:
We were both impressed and grateful to learn that Barb Larson has filed for the vacant DeKalb Second Ward alderman seat. Election is April 6th.
Especially in these unprecedented times we need alderpersons with outstanding: talents, leadership experience, problem solving ability, a team player orientation and willingness to put in ALL the time it requires. There are extremely few persons who meet this standard. Barb Larson CLEARLY DOES.
The Larson family moved to DeKalb 20 years ago. Barb soon became active in community affairs which eventually led to her holding, at different times ,three Board chairs (Barb Music Boosters, Family Service Agency and their church) plus other numerous involvements including cooking delicious meals for Hope Haven residents and being active in the revitalization of the Egyptian Theatre.
One example that captures Barb’s unique initiative in pursuit of important goals involved the use of memorial funds for her then recently departed parents.. The family decided improved landscaping for the courtyard her parents enjoyed at a senior housing complex would be appropriate. When the project stalled Barb volunteered to design the project and supervise staff on a daily basis. This took much of the summer. It turned out so well residents asked for landscape funding for other areas. Was approved by management after Barb agreed to continue as this project supervisor gratis.)
A vote for Barb Larson on April 6 will immeasurably benefit both the 2nd ward and the entire city of DeKalb. Further information can be found on Barb's candidacy at the site below. https://www.barblarsonforalderman.com/ The tab on "Why I Am Running" is particularly compelling.
